Brighter Than Sunshine

There’s a little girl with long dirty blonde hair running through a field of Morning Glories. Sitting down among the flowers, she takes a moment to rest. She stares at the violet colored flowers in amazement, contemplating the fact that they bloom so uniquely. She’s only a child, yet she understands how amazing this particular flower can be. Suddenly a bird chirps, she laughs, stands up, and begins running again.

The lush, dewy grass tickles her bare feet. She loves the sensation, it’s a feeling of freedom on this early Saturday morning. She walks a familiar path, the smells of Honeysuckle being carried by the light Summertime breeze. Taking a deep breath, she sighs, and picks some Honeysuckle flowers growing on the side of a fence. She decorates the top of her ponytail with the pale flowers and decides to lay in the grass.

Looking to the sky, she spots fluffy white clouds that seem to be made of cotton. Watching as they slowly float above her, she imagines each cloud is a world of it’s own. Way up above her head, there could be a princess living in a castle on top of that cloud. There could be a circus inside of the next because it looks just like a huge tent. A third cloud floats by, and she decides that this cloud looks like a puppy. Maybe he’s lost and trying to find the princess inside of the castle.

The sunshine is warming her face now, making her sleepy. Slowly, she drifts off to sleep, dreaming of her cloud worlds.

  1. Makes me think of the Jimi Hendrix song Little Wing:
“Well she’s walking, through the clouds,
with a circus smile that’s running ’round.
Butterflies and rubies, zebras, and a fairytail, all she
ever dreams about, ridin’ with the wind…
When I’m sad, she comes to me
sayin’ take anything you want from me,
    anything…
    Ride on Little Wing…”
