Heart of a Child

I really enjoy the holiday season. No, it’s not because I enjoy receiving gifts. I never have an expensive wishlist. I enjoy this time of year because I love to unleash my inner child.

I enjoy every second of decorating my home. I love baking cookies(and tasting cookies). I secretly wish for snow, even though it inconveniences my entire life. I know every lyric to every cheesy holiday song. I never watch family cartoons or animated movies, until the holidays are upon us. The bright lights and glitter make my soul happy. It takes me back to a time when life was simple, when I was a kid and everything was exciting.

It’s easy to be cynical about Christmas, or the holiday season in general. Yes, it’s commercialized, but it doesn’t have to be that way for you. Remember your favorite holiday traditions and memories. Take the initiative to make the season a time to celebrate family, life, and yourself.

Stop focusing on your adult responsibilities and troubles. Put a little effort into finding the beauty and innocence in the season. Feel the holiday cheer with the heart of a child again. It can be magical, if you allow.

  1. Aahhh yes. There’s nothing that brings out the inner child in me like all the Christmas songs and decorations this time of year. What’s great is that I seem to get more and more excited about it as I get older. Maybe our inner children get more and more desperate for a release.

  2. Love this. Being happy is rare. Light hearted and gay. It’s wonderful to feel this way. But we’ve lost that in the day to day. Especially men. Skip dance and twirl? Certainly no real man would do so! Sad. I do. I believe and it is wonderful. I wish more people could let themselves be happy. Instead many make fun of those who are free.
